The history of Bhutto family is a fable of struggle & sacrifices, the family, that has its roots in the people of Pakistan and the relation between the Bhutto family and Pakistan is somewhat like a fish, which cannot stay without water. Similar is the case with Bhutto family that has from the very first day, fought for the rights of the people of Pakistan, and if we go deep into the history, we’d come across the Bhutto family’s inevitable role in the creation of Pakistan. The world witnessed Quaid e Azam, who by his tireless efforts founded Pakistan and after the splitting of this Pakistan into pieces, it was Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who founded a new Pakistan. Those dark nights of December 1971, anxiety everywhere, the voice of the bullets and enemy attacks…..where was the country moving towards. Absolute destruction…Conspiracies had further worsened the situation and then the declaration of Bangladesh as an independent state made it all a situation too horrible to ignore…..What had the Pakistan army done…????? We had lost half of our land and still, the dictators ruling the country could not do anything to improve the situation or to help avoid any partitions. Pakistan was almost finished …. Not only had a new country Bangladesh come into being, but thousands of acres of land from West Pakistan too went into the control of India. It was at this time, Pakistan got an angel in the form of Quaid e Awaam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
It was the time, when Pakistan had reached very low ebb. The issue of Kashmir had not been solved for years. No one was there to think for the rights of the people of the country, but when Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto came into power, the first thing he did was to reform the administration of the country. For this purpose, he also removed some of the corrupt chiefs from the army and a new post “Chief of Army Staff” was introduced. After the 1971 War, thousands of Pakistani soldiers were taken as captives by the Indian army. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto then signed the Simla Agreement with the Indian Prime Minster Miss Indira Gandhi. Thus, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto succeeded in bringing back the 90,000 prisoners of wars back to their land. Similarly, he also worked to improve the conditions of the laborers by allowing them to form unions and organizing their work hours, so that they get adequate remuneration for their services. Land reforms were introduced, providing security to the tenants and putting an end to the prevailing Zameendar system. Other than that , numerous reforms were made in the field of education , agriculture and health . Brand names were removed from the medicines and doctors and nurses sent to far flanged village to provide health facilities to the people. Moreover, the industrial development too doubled during the Bhutto’s era. Pakistan Steel Mill was established with the co operation of the USSR.It was also Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who gave Pakistan a constitution, which fulfilled the requirements of the country’s administration….Oh!!! Pity on these dictators, who could not even set up a constitution in their long decades of rule. Pakistan moved into a new era of prosperity. There came a time, when the nascent state became the centre of the world’s concern. Pakistan’s foreign policy entered a glorious decade. The World’s largest Islamic Summit Conference was held in Lahore, during the time of Bhutto to show Muslim strength and unity. Pakistan entered into an example less Friendship and co operation with China. Relations with the Muslim World reached a magnificent point of brotherhood & fraternity. Relations with the Western world, USSR & India also improved.
Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was of the view that the UNO should change its stance & work for the welfare of the world. His speech at the Security Council became very famous: “My country hearkens for me. Why should I waste my time here in the Security Council”? Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto possessed an amazing speaking power. He always spoke for the people & in the voice of the people. He suffered great hardships for the sake of a democratic Pakistan. He faced the prisons during Ayub Khan and Zia ul Haq’s era, but never dealt on regulations. He gave up his life in his struggling for completing his promise to provide Bread, Clothing & Shelter to the people of Pakistan. His head was cut off, but he did bow it in front of a dictator.
